What's all the buzz about an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU)?
They are becoming more and more in demand according to a recent survey, it shows that 24% of agents say an ADU, such as a mother-in-law house, is one of the most desired features buyers are looking for right now. According to Fannie Mae, and ADU is a self-contained living space located on the same lot as a single-family home. To qualify as an ADU, it must have an independent living, sleeping, cooking, and bathroom facilities separate from the main residence. ADUs can take various forms, including:
1) A unit within the primary home, such as a basement apartment
2) An attached structure, like a living space above a garage
3) A completely detached unit, which could even be a manufactured home
